A Room in the Glass Globe

Hideyuki Nakayama’s “A Room in the Glass Globe”, developed in conjunction with LEVER, is essentially a door knob that allows a viewer to peer into a room with a closed door. The view is a bit clouded, and fish-eye distorted, not a perfect clear view. Although it clearly defeats the purpose of a door, I find it interesting. It reminds me of some of a possible future society, where nothing is private and the government can invade your life anyway and anytime. Sort of like in Minority Report, where you are eye-scanned every 10 seconds, the police can aggressively interrupt your private life at anytime, and personal data is displayed for everyone to see. It’s currently on display at the Plain People store in Aoyama, Tokyo. Source: Gizmodo

Well, Halloween may have already past this year, but anytime is the right time for a Tron Suit! Designer Syuzi Pakhchyan has created this awesome Tron: Quorra costume, complete with luminescent striping and “identity disc”. I think this is my all time favorite Halloween costume. Not only is it a great character to mimic, the simplicity behind the design makes it especially appealing to me. According to the article, Syuzi will be posting diy instructions in the next weeks to make your own Quorra suit. So, if you’re interested, check back at FashioningTechnology for updates. Syuzi says: The costume is made from faux leather and EL Film strips. The luminescent panels are removable, velcored onto the leather vest in order to make the top washable. To be frank, the cutting and re-soldering the EL film was quite tricky to work with but I think I managed to the tame the [...]
Can Eco-Friendly Go Too Far?

I don’t know, but if it can, these would probably be a few inches over the threshold. They’re called “Zero Footprint Shirt”, by designer/artist Dave Rittinger. Although, I don’t see how they can be “zero footprint” since they use glue. Anyway, they do have a certain visual appeal, but definitely too costume-ish for my realistic taste. Maybe a nice leaf-print shirt on organic cotton, from an environmentally conscious facility would be more practical. But, of course, I doubt practicality was the intention here. I like the brownish/purple one the best. Visit Dave Rittinger

Made from a zillion multi-colored foam nubs of different heights, the topographical carpet depicts a beautiful landscape in 3D, much to the delightment of your feet. The rug was designed by Laurens van Wieringren, and constructed with the help of some 29 friends. Certainly unique, if not amazing and beautiful. Source Gizmodo

Beautiful Art Deco Motorcycle

Found at Knucklebuster, via Make, this gorgeous 1936 Art Deco Henderson-replica Motorcycle is simply breathtaking. Art Deco says it all. Artistic, functional and incredibly unique. From Knucklebuster: I took these photos at the Rhinebeck Grand National Meet where the newly restored bike was unveiled. The bike belongs to Frank Westfall from Syracuse, NY. According to some info I found online, the bike was originally built by O. Ray Courtney in 1936 and is based on a 1930 K.J Henderson. The bike is powered by inline four cylinder (not a scooter as some have said, check the shot of the motor below) and as I’m sure you can gather by now, is a one-off custom. What I can confirm is it does run and while it looked a bit unwieldy, Frank could be seen riding the bike around the Fairgrounds all weekend. But let’s be honest here (and maybe I’m wrong) [...]

I love browsing Etsy.com for unique items. After viewing Mary Andrews’ works yesterday, I found myself looking at necklaces, then found some Steampunk stuff and decided to do a search for all Steampunk. That’s when I discovered for the first time the numerous and wonderful goggle available. If you’re a fan of goggles, and I know I am, you should check out the plethora available on Etsy. Just do a search for “goggles” and BAM, you’re in goggle heaven. Some are handmade, some are vintage welder’s goggles, some are just plain crazy. My personal taste is more towards the traditional steampunk look, with usable-quality craftsmanship. There are also lots of industrial, cyberpunk, and gothic styles as well. Here’s a few of my favorites (with links to each artist page) Jaded Minx edmdesigns edmdesigns BrazenDevice torquearm creations Thin Gypsy Thief (steampunk22) Highwind Steamworks Parkers and Quinn Kelvin Shaw & Co. Here’s another blog that I shamelessly enjoy: But You’re Like Really Pretty. I can admit that I love a good seedy gossip blog as much as the big news or art blogs…. I don’t discriminate. Although But You’re Like Really Pretty doesn’t really fall into the category of seedy, I did find it through a seedy gossip blog. But You’re Like Really Pretty is unique in that it’s only updated on Wednesday’s, and each new illustration depicts one of the many ridiculous things going on in the world of celebrities that particular week. Nothing is off limits, from Mel Gibson to Jersey Shore, Paris Hilton to Lindsay Lohan, Katy Perry to True Blood. Oh yeah, and there’s iPhone wallpaper downloads :) Here’s a sampling View more at But You’re Like Really Pretty

Sometimes we all need a little reminder about life etiquette, like when feelings of greed, pity, vindication, or narcissism creep up and make us start thinking or doing crazy things. Stuff No One Told Me (but I learned anyway) is a great blog by illustrator, Alex Noriega, that effectively captures these little life lessons in a fun and humorous way. Simple, truthful and relative in some way to everyone’s feelings and experiences at some point in life. Here’s a few of my favorite illustrations from the site: Visit Alex Noriega’s Stuff No One Told Me

By industrial designer, Igor Chak, the Space Invader Couch is as cool as it is whimsical. 8-bits combined with modern sleekness makes an oddly cute creature. Although super cool looking, looks like it would be a bit unforgiving in the tush area :) But what would I expect from an alien bent on destroying Earth…. I think some throw pillows in the shape of the 10- point alien would make it perfect :) Check out more at www.igorchak.com
