Here’s the unusual and stunning artwork of Laurie Hogin. Odd combinations of animals of brilliant colors are both interesting and beautiful. Being a lover of all things biology I would love to have one of her paintings. Links: Little john Contemporary

Lovely Tilt Shift Photography

Lovely Tilt Shift Photography

I’ve seen quite a bit of tilt-shift photography lately, or photos modified in photoshop to mimick the expensive tilt-shift lens effect. Essentially, by blurring out selected parts of a photograph, the focal area is made to look miniature. It’s pretty cool! Here are some samples from the Miniature Sunday Group. And here’s a tutorial to create a tilt-shift effect in photoshop, http://www.tiltshiftphotography.net/photoshop-tutorial.php.

Glow Graffiti

Glow Graffiti

Spray paint that uses UV light instead of chemicals… sounds pretty cool. I’d like to see it i person. Here’s what Suck UK says: “It’s the dead of night; everyone is tucked up in bed and the owls are-a-hooting. So it’s time to break out the Glow Graffiti! Powered with UV light you can write, stencil and draw rude pictures to create your very own glowing light show. It’s like very complicated vandalism except much prettier and you won’t get nicked by the police doing it. This really is a gadget of mind-boggling genius, perfect for parties (or if your nocturnal) and will have your friends intrigued for hours to how it all works. If we did tell you the super-top secret information to how it works we’d have to kill you.” Link: Suck UK

More Molecules – The Nomad Light Molecule

More Molecules – The Nomad Light Molecule

This is an awesome prototype lighting system, by Maarten De Ceulaer, that combines several “atom lights” to form molecules. “Pick a magical atom of light from the molecule, and take it with you, where ever you want. When fully recharged, the spheres will give light for approximately 4 hours. When the light starts to faint, simply plug it back on the molecule, so it can recharge. The shape of the molecule is completely amorphous, you can place the lamp in any possible position, flip it around, turn or twist it, to create a different look every time again.” I hope this goes into production at some point. Tobiah Mundt Felt Creatures

Tobiah Mundt Felt Creatures

Tobiah Mundt makes the coolest felt creatures. No cutesy, cuddly critters here. People-eating bunnies, devious-looking primates, and acacia-limbed beings bring a new style and dimension to felting. Link: Under the Licorice Tree

Tiffany’s work is really great. I think some of her works are a little doleful, but overall very creative and thought provoking. Most are full of color and life, with obvious biological and ecological undertones. Link: Tiffany Bozic

Glass Molecules

Glass Molecules

I love these! They would be a perfect gift for any science geek. For me, I would want the Serotonin or Mescaline molecule. They’re handmade by artist Ed Steckley, of Celestine Glass. “The molecules are made of borosilicate glass as 3D representations of 2D molecular structures (so they can lie flat on a table). Different elements–carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, etc–are represented by different color glass. Contributors can choose the molecular structure of psychoactive chemicals such as DMT, LSD, MDMA, Psilocin, Nitrous Oxide, and Serotonin.” Source: Erowid
