Eye-Fi Pro X2 for iPad and DSLR Cameras

Eye-Fi Pro X2 for iPad and DSLR Cameras

Eye-Fi Pro X2 tethers dslr camera to ipad The Eye-Fi Pro X2 is a great device that allows a photographer to read a DSLR memory card into an iPad wirelessly. That’s right, no wired connections. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 replaces your standard memory card and allows an interface with your iPad. This is great for live demos, fast quality checks, etc. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 ($130) makes the transfer through any available wireless internet connection. It is also possible for it to directly transfer from the camera to the iPad using the less expensive Eye-Fi Connect X2 ($45), but to do so requires you to “jailbreak” your iPad. Additionally, the direct method requires a $20 app from the “Cydia” store, and an $8 app from the standard app store. So, you could purchase the Eye-Fi Pro X2 and use it through wi-fi connections on the go, or you could use [...]

Sharpie Graphite Pencil Ink

Sharpie Graphite Pencil Ink

Not sure how useful this will be in a world dominated by keyboards, but Sharpie has come out with a pen that has “liquid graphite” ink, as in pencil graphite. It writes like a pen, but the graphite ink is erasable for up to three days. One good application would be contract writing on the fly…. maybe, I don’t know. Or note taking in class. $4.99 at Office Depot Source: The Daily Wh.at

Memory Pen

Memory Pen

Wang Xuelei has designed the Memory Pen USB Flash Drive. Essentially, it is a pen that does not require paper. You can jot down memos and little bits of info on almost any surface, and the pen stores the virtual motion of the pen strokes in it’s memory. Then you plug it into your computer as a Flash Drive and download digital representations of what you wrote with the pen. Although obvious issues exist with not being able to actually see what you’re writing, this would undoubtedly be a useful gadget. Also, it would save a huge amount of paper, which is a step in the right direction towards focusing on environmentally-responsible equipment. Source Yanko Design

Beautiful Art Deco Motorcycle

Beautiful Art Deco Motorcycle

Found at Knucklebuster, via Make, this gorgeous 1936 Art Deco Henderson-replica Motorcycle is simply breathtaking. Art Deco says it all. Artistic, functional and incredibly unique. From Knucklebuster: I took these photos at the Rhinebeck Grand National Meet where the newly restored bike was unveiled. The bike belongs to Frank Westfall from Syracuse, NY. According to some info I found online, the bike was originally built by O. Ray Courtney in 1936 and is based on a 1930 K.J Henderson. The bike is powered by inline four cylinder (not a scooter as some have said, check the shot of the motor below) and as I’m sure you can gather by now, is a one-off custom. What I can confirm is it does run and while it looked a bit unwieldy, Frank could be seen riding the bike around the Fairgrounds all weekend. But let’s be honest here (and maybe I’m wrong) [...]

Apple Magic Trackpad

Apple Magic Trackpad

The Apple Magic Trackpad is now available, for $69. It’s supposedly just like the trackpad on the MacBook Pro, but larger and made for your desktop Mac. Wireless Bluetooth, of course, and designed to match the “sculpted aluminum” Apple Wireless Keyboard. Click, scroll, swipe, pinch, zoom, and rotate with your fingertips…. or turn off those gestures you don’t want to use. Personally, I wasn’t impressed one bit by the magic mouse, so I’m a bit skeptical of this one too. Still, I have hope that the Magic Trackpad will leave me stunned and amazed…. or at least empty pocketed and confused :) Right, and I right here folks? (please don’t lynch me) See more at www.apple.com/magictrackpad

Samsung HD Camcorder

Samsung HD Camcorder

I’ve never been a camcorder buff. They’re really cool and all, but I just never had the need for one. Based solely on design, I found it necessary to post this new model from Samsung. DVICE has this to say: “Samsung just took its flagship 1080p camcorder and made it even better. The HMX-106′s major improvement over its predecessors is the camera’s optical image stabilization. This fixes the major flaw in last year’s Samsung HMX-20C camcorder, whose digital image stabilization we’ve found to be largely ineffective. Samsung has also increased the internal solid-state storage capacity to an impressive 64GB of flash memory, which it’s calling a camcorder first — probably soon to be matched industry-wide. The camera’s predecessor is excellent aside from its shaky stabilization, making this new HMX-106 and its brandmates, each with incrementally lesser degrees of flash storage and price, HD camcorders worth a closer look. Flickr Set: Vintage Apple Memorabilia

I found these over at boingboing.net today. Very cool, indeed. Most of these are before my time, but it’s interesting to see such a fast evolution of electronics. I’m sure the cutting edge notebook I’m writing on now will be some tiny blip in a vintage memorabilia collections someday… my kids will laugh and call me a dinosaur… history repeats itself. In the ad for the first image it brags about the power of the mac, as the image was illustrated using a mac II. Graphic art has come a loooooooong way. Can’t wait to see what it will be in 20 more years! Don’t know why, but I’ve always found young Steve Jobs HOT!!!! I know… I’m a sicky Link: Flickr Set

Revolving Door Generates Energy from Humans

Revolving Door Generates Energy from Humans

Cool idea that maybe is long overdue. “It’s an alarmingly simple concept that claims to be the world’s first application: Netherlands-based company Natuurcafé La Port installed a power generator into a revolving door. Fantastic, but it took us this long? “The door is the entrance to the Driebergen-Zeist railway station, where it’s predicted to generate 4600 kwh of energy a year—or somewhere around what the average house needs annually, depending who you talk to. Not bad at all. Sure, it’s probably not enough to power all of those train lines, but it’s essentially free energy.  [Boon Edam via Inhabitat]” Source: Gizmodo

Pano Zero Client PC

Pano Zero Client PC

This is a great new use of server virtualization, allowing the client to have a tiny desktop computer and negligible power consumption (5 watts). It has no CPU, no local software, no memory. Basically it has just a network connection that streams in data (ie operating system, application information, etc) from a cloud server, using its “Console Direct Technology”. I love the minimalist design, and the technology running the show looks very promising. Here’s waht DVICE says: “If you like the idea of cloud computing, you’ll love this Pano Zero Client. It’s minimalist, to say the least. It has no CPU, no memory, no local software, no nothing. Well, there’s a network connection, and the idea is to stream everything from the cloud, using its Console Direct Technology. Does it run those Internet-based “cloud apps” we like so much? Not exactly. Aimed at big (and cash-strapped) corporations, it’s designed to [...]

Sony VAIO VGN-FW235J/H Review

Sony VAIO VGN-FW235J/H Review

I just purchased Sony’s VAIO VGN-FW235J/H laptop, and so far it’s proving to be an excellent choice. I’ve only had Sony laptops, so maybe I’m not the best person to review it in comparison to other brands, but here it is anyways. I was shopping at Best Buy and really was planning on getting some HP model, hopefully something on sale. I wanted Intel Duo 64 bit processor, minimum 2GHz, 3GB to 4GB ram, at least 1600×1200 resolution, and a 17 inch display. Well, I got almost everything. The display is 1600×900, and 16.4 inches, but I’m very happy with it overall. So far performance has not had a single hangup, although I am not running many applications at once. At my office, I have an HP with Intel Quad processor with appropriate speed/ram, and I manage to bog it down frequently with apps (itunes, photoshop, flash, flex, illustrator, dreamweaver, cuteFTP, [...]
